On September 28 I wrote to the OCL community about OCL's first paid plans: why we're introducing them, and what we're committed to preserving. Pro is now available, and anyone with an OCL account can subscribe. After fifteen years of building OCL with contributors in more than 30 countries, Pro serves two goals together: starting the sustainable service model the letter described, and offering more valuable services to the teams who rely on it.

What Pro is. Pro is for one person who works on terminology every day. It includes the OCL Mapper, which takes a spreadsheet of your local codes and recommends matches to a target terminology like ICD-10, LOINC or CIEL, or your own custom source. Several matching algorithms find candidates, the OCL AI Assistant weighs them and explains its recommendation, and your team makes the final decision. We're committed to responsible AI. Pro also adds private repositories, higher limits and access to the OCL FHIR Terminology Service, and the pricing page lists everything it includes. Pro is $20 a month or $200 a year, plus any tax at checkout. It includes a monthly allowance for matching and the OCL AI Assistant, and use beyond it will be pay-for-use. Subscribe from the pricing page while signed in, and Pro is added to your account.

The free Community plan includes browsing and searching all public content, including CIEL; creating, editing and publishing public terminology; and exporting your own content. The community built and maintains nearly three-quarters of the content on OCL, and it stays open to everyone. OCL's core stays open source, and you can still host it yourself.

Accounts created before November 1 keep their current functionality until December 1, 2026. If you haven't subscribed to Pro by then, your account moves to the free Community plan, and private repositories and Mapper projects beyond the preview become read-only. The FAQ sets out what happens to existing content.

Teams and larger deployments. For organizations, the new Team plan, designed for collaboration, will be available later in November: tell us about yours from the Team card on the pricing page. For a national deployment, your own systems calling the terminology service, or a formal SLA, talk to us.

Changes to our Terms and Privacy Policy. From November 1, OCL may use information about activity on its services, together with public content, to improve and develop them, and to create shared resources and insights for the community. Anything we publish from it is aggregated or de-identified, and when we build on public content we follow the license stated on its repository. It's "How OCL learns from use" in the Terms of Use and "Usage" in the Privacy Policy. The Terms of Use also have a new "Paid plans" section. We're emailing every account holder about both.

What comes next. These are introductory prices for the first year, set with input from OCL users while we learn our full operating costs. Allowances may change as we learn how OCL Online is used, and pay-for-use details will be announced soon. I'd like to hear where the plans fit your work and where they don't: reply in OCL Chat or write to me at jon@openconceptlab.org.

Thank you for building OCL with us.
