2024 OCL Community Roadmap

The OCL community is excited to announce the launch of our Open Concept Lab (OCL) 2024 Community Roadmap! This promises to be a year centered around strengthening connections across our diverse global community of terminology users, developers, and partners.

Our OCL Community Roadmap sets goals for OCL’s open-source tools and for the community at large. There are 3 key efforts that are shaping the 2024’s roadmap:

  • OCL v3 and the Smart Dictionary Initiative – In 2023, the OCL community announced the Smart Dictionary Initiative and kicked-off development of the next version of OCL’s tools. OCL v3 will be launched in mid-2024.
  • OCL Year of Community – 2024 is OCL’s “Year of Community”, where our success is measured not simply by the number of feature enhancements made to the tools, but by the strengthening of our community of practice. The new initiative will be officially launched in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for more information!

So what’s in OCL’s 2024 Community Roadmap? The roadmap lays out priorities and requirements in these categories:

Tools
  • OCL FHIR Core
  • Smart Dictionary Management Workflows
  • Searchi Experience
  • Multi-server Browsing & Management
  • Standards Reuse & Collaboration
  • Cybersecurity & Compliance
Community
  • Community Website
  • Events
  • Communications
  • Governance
  • User Support

A dedicated OCL Chat thread will remain open throughout 2024 for suggestions, comments, reactions, and questions from the community about the roadmap. All input is welcome and encouraged!

And finally, a huge thank you to all of the organizations and individuals that helped to create the roadmap. Just to name a few: Health Level 7, PEPFAR, ICF, Regenstrief Institute, OpenMRS, World Health Organization, Apelon, and our country partners in Kenya (Intellisoft, Palladium, University of Nairobi), Ethiopia, and elsewhere. This community would not exist without all of you!
